OGDEN BATHTUB REFINISHING
Bathtub Refinishing
Do you currently have a bathtub that has minor issues such as small cracks, dirt, and stains? You don’t have to worry about replacing your old bathtub, you can have it refurnished instead. It may not seem like it, but bathrooms are one of the most important areas in someone’s home. This area gets a lot of attention, especially if you have guests over. A well-kept bathroom can signify that you’re a clean and organized homeowner, while a dirty bathroom may not reflect so well on you. One of the key items in a bathroom is the bathtub where you take warm baths at the end of the day to refresh yourself from all the day’s stressful activities. Having a dirty, stained bathtub can leave you feeling bothered and uncomfortable instead. So if you want a brand new-looking bathtub in an instant without having to splurge, get your bathtub refinished instead.
What Is Bathtub Refinishing?
Bathtub refinishing also known as bathtub recoating, reglazing, or resurfacing is the process of multi-coating your bathtub and its surround. It turns your old bathtub’s surface into a new-looking bathtub for a relatively low cost. This is simply a cosmetic procedure and can only be done for bathtubs that do not have big problems or damages. If your bathtub only has minor cosmetic issues, such as cracking, staining, scratches, or dirt then bathtub refinishing can be performed.
The Entire Refinishing Process
A brand-new-looking bathtub cannot be attained using a DIY Kit. A lot of people attempt to do this project themselves and find that they experience a lot of problems along the way or that the finished result isn’t necessarily what they hoped for. The refinishing process is something that requires knowledge and experience, so it’s best to hire a professional refinisher for this. Now, let’s look at what the refinishing process is like:
- For the first step, the drain has to be removed. This step is important as it improves the coating lifespan but it cannot always be done. The damaged areas are then repaired and it will be checked if the bathtub holds water after draining. Chips or cracks will be repaired as well.
- After repairs have been made, the surface is then etched or sanded down. This is to improve the adhesion of the remaining top layers. Porcelain, enamel, and fiberglass tubs are non-porous and aren’t the best surface for allowing proper adhesion. Another possible way to prepare the surface is to apply a bonding agent prior to applying the coating. These two methods are either done alone or together.
- After the etching process and prior to having the coating applied, the refinishers will be wearing protective equipment and will also set up an exhaust system to avoid any possible fire or explosion hazard.
- Once the refinishers and the surrounding areas are protected, it’s time to apply the coating. The coating is usually fairly thick when cured to make sure that it provides lasting results. Additional coats will be added if needed.
- To set the coating that has been applied, a top coat will be applied over it to ensure that it is sealed into place.
- After all the spraying has been done, the refinishers will fix all of the equipment and remove the masking and leftover garbage from the home. The bathtub should be left to sit for a minimum of 24 hours. Once done, it can be used.
Why You Need A Professional To Refinish Your Tub
As mentioned before, refinishing is not a task that should be done by inexperienced individuals. DIY kits are not the way to go as they only contain standard materials and the instructions don’t include the proper tricks to ensure that you get professional results. Here are a couple more reasons why it’s strongly advised to refrain from doing this project yourself:
